When you see it...

I'm not gonna lie: this amused the shit out of me.

I know, I know. There's something wrong with me. No one is arguing that fact.

Monday's Meme of the Week

There is no doubt about which meme wins this week's spotlight:

I mean... come ON. That shit's funny.

A Song for Sunday: Bronski Beat - Hit That Perfect Beat

You have my husband to blame for this one:

Why didn't I marry someone with better taste in music? ;)

Okay... I do like this. But still.

A Rejection

Not high on the list of things I like to see in my inbox but, hey, this is what being a writer is about, right?

An Important Day

I know this is kind of lame but it's pretty damned important to me.

This is me, autographing a book for the very first time:

Being a writer is pretty difficult most of the time - but these are the moments that make it totally worth it.

Throwback Thursday

Back in 2008, Showmasters decided that they were going to try to set a World Record for most people in Star Wars costume. Well, as per usual for Showmasters, it was a complete shambles and they never even told us whether it was official or not (we assumed not) but it was still a lot of fun.

But the photo I've got for you today isn't from that attempt - though you can check out photos of me as a Jedi here

I'm really super excited about this photo because I had completely forgotten about meeting David Anders! I love/hate this guy in iZombie!

And, if you do want to see our Record attempt, you can have a gander at this video:

Because... why not?

I often have problems focusing on any one thing at a time, for any length of time. My doctors say it's ''symptomatic of the disease''. Yeah,  okay.

Anyway... it means that I get distracted easily - like when I'm supposed to be working on updating our photography page on Facebook but I end up doing this instead:

At least I amuse myself!

Supergirl? Superfail.

We finally got around to the first episode of Supergirl.

What the hell was that shit? Really, DC, really? I can't even count the ways Supergirl failed. From cliches to character development - and, of course, the feminism it supposedly encouraged. You can't just say, ''feminism is good'', then contradict yourself with every word and action - and still expect us to buy it. (And, really, the lack of character development was a big deal for me.)

So... I I just can't do Supergirl. I just can't. It makes my head go fzzztPOP.

Women read comics and watch these shows. Stop insulting our intelligences. I don't care whether it's true to the comics or not. You had the chance to do something awesome for all the young girls out there looking for heroes and you gave them a weak crybaby with perfect lipstick. Way to go, DC.

Writing Round Up

It's been two weeks since the end of my volunteer work. I guess that means it's time to look at where I am with my writing. So...

Active short story submissions: 6
Active poetry submissions: 2
Competitions entered: 2
Edits completed: 3
Stories finished: 1
Stories started: 1

I'm feeling pretty good about that. Let's hope I can keep it up. My mental health issues make it really hard for me to stay focused so it might be a struggle.

Monday's Meme of the Week
**Possible Spoilers**

Last week was a week of brilliant memes. Take this one, for example. Or this one.

So hard to choose this week. Hard - but not impossible.

New rule: if a meme makes me snot, it automatically wins.

And... here it is:

Sunday 22 May 2016

A Song for Sunday: Toy Dolls - Nellie the Elephant

I got this song stuck in my head for about three days.

Absolute nonsense, of course, but far too catchy.

I blame my husband for my even knowing this song exists. And now you can blame me.

#TeamSpike

I sometimes - more often than I should, if @drewhilda's FB wall is anything to go by - get it into my head that I have to find a certain meme. (Meme's are a brilliant human creation. But that's the topic of another post.)

Well.

I decided that I had to have a meme that featured Spike and the words ''The girl needs a little monster in her man''. Sadly, that meme was not to be found. (Someone less lazy than myself needs to create this, by the way.) But I did find a couple of things that made me laugh out loud.

Like this Twitard meme:

(And, yes, I agree that Angel was a pathetic vampire.)

Also, this gif, which is SO me when I'm hangry:

What are your favourite Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel memes?

The Kindest Rejection

Being a writer is tough. Being a writer who suffers from Depression and Anxiety can be fucking awful at times. You've heard the phrase, ''glutton for punishment''? Well, that's me.

I was a writer long before I was a person with a mental illness. It's not just what I do; it's who I am. Even if it bloody kills me.

Which, sometimes, I think it might.

There are days when I think I just can't do it any more. I can't keep putting myself out there, just to be rejected. For my self-confidence to be destroyed. But, then, I remind myself that if I give up, I stop being a writer and start being a person defined by their illness.

It'll be a cold day in Hell. (I mean, of course, the proverbial Hell, not the Hell in Michigan - where it is often a cold day.)

So, I submit. I get rejected. Sometimes, I get accepted and that keeps me going for awhile. When I get rejected, I try to put a brave face on and tell myself that it's just something writers have to deal with. Which, of course, is completely true.

There is a point to this rambling, I promise, and I'm getting to it. Now.

I received a rejection yesterday that actually made me feel good about myself.

I can't even begin to tell you how much this meant to me. I don't know if it's a stock rejection or if the editor really meant what they said - and I don't really care. Either way, it was the kindest rejection I have ever received and I am so grateful for that.

My self-confidence is currently having a parade through my brain, waving flags and shouting, ''We're here, we're-'' Well, you know what I mean.

What will I do with this ego boost? The only thing a writer can do: keep submitting until that rejection turns into acceptance. Wish me luck.

Throwback Thursday

This week's Throwback Thursday photo comes from Memorabilia, 2003:

Every time I see a picture of Tom Baker, my head goes ''TOM!''

Awesome Doctor. Wonderful to meet.

Wednes-DIY

I finished a short story that I was working on and reached the end of a PS4 game I'd been playing so I decided that I needed to do something with my hands for awhile, to give my mind time to rest. After a little rooting around in my craft supplies, I found this paint-your-own gnome I picked up a few years ago.

He's painted in Eaton Rapids colors because I miss my hometown. Like, a lot. Seriously. *sniffle*

Monday's Meme of the Week

If you don't laugh out loud at this, we can't be friends:

This one almost beat it because, well, it's so true.

Sunday 15 May 2016

A Song for Sunday: Savage Garden - Universe

I'm taking it back to the Nineties with this one.

Universe inside your heart/You gotta let me know so you can be free baby/
You wanted it so much and now that it's over/You don't know what you want
(Lyrics from MetroLyrics)

I don't know about you, but I can never get enough Savage Garden. It's my writing music and my chill out music.

Also, if you don't mind TMI, I dream of sex that's as smooth as Savage Garden. If you know what I mean.

Throwback Thursday

This week, for Throwback Thursday, I decided to share some old convention photos. Here's my favourite from Collectormania G-Mex, back in 2006:

Yup, that's me and Robert Pattinson - you know... back before Twilight.

Wednes-DIY

As a going away present for the classroom I've been volunteering in, I made a butterfly mobile for their reading corner.

Picture is crappy but I was in a hurry. What do you think?

So... it's basically two embroidery hoops, a few yards of wool, some funky clay rose beads, embroidery floss, hot glue, plastic hearts, and origami butterflies. Took something like four hours over three days to make.

A Song for Sunday: Concrete Blondes - Bloodletting

My husband was playing this song not too long ago and, while sometimes his music makes me stabby, I quite like this one:

I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the fact that it's called ''Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)''.

...yeah... right.

A Sad Day

Today was a sad day because my work experience at a local primary school came to an end.

I got to spend a year with the most amazing kids and learned A LOT about working in a classroom. It makes me glad that I didn't get accepted into a teaching course the first time around because I would NOT have been ready.

Before I left, I got the best presents, including the largest card I've ever seen:

It was really special because the kids each drew themselves - and some even managed to write their own names:

(Which, yeah, I've blocked out because you don't need to know them.)

And the gift was just amazing: little superhero handprints with a fingerprint from each of the kids, all framed up.

One of the teachers I worked with even gave me a mini Marvel cake and a bunch of chocolate.

Neither of which will last long, I'm sure.

I had such a great time this year and I'm looking forward to my next classroom experience.

A Song for Sunday: The Connells - '74-'75

I'm going to be honest with you: I don't even like this song. BUT my husband has been listening to it non-stop - which means that I can't get it out of my freaking head.

Okay... the music video is sweet. I'd love to do this with my school friends one day.

But I still don't like the song.
